- Women consumers account for roughly 60% of all wine purchases in the United States today.
- There are 74 professionals who hold the title Master Sommelier in North America; 61 are men and 13 are women. The first woman in the U.S. to hold this title was Madeline Triffon, who earned the title in 1987 and remained the only American women to achieve this status for eight years. There are a total of 120 Master Sommeliers worldwide.
- UC Davis, one of the top agricultural schools in the country, reported in 1997 that 35 percent of its students seeking degrees in Viticulture & Oenology were women, a 15 percent increase since 1987, and the numbers continue to climb. As of the 2005 fall semester, the number of women pursuing these degrees at UC Davis had more than doubled in comparison to just 5 years earlier.
